Jun. 19, 2012 BrownfieldAgNews reports: USDA reports corn and soybean crop condition ratings dipped again last week as crops in some of the key U.S. growing areas continued to show the effects of generally dry weather. As of Sunday, 63% of corn is in good to excellent condition, down 3% on the week and 7% less than last year at this time. 5% of the crop is silking, compared to 2% both a year ago and on the five year average. For soybeans, 56% is rated good to excellent, 4% below last week and 12% lower than last year. 95% of beans have emerged, compared to 77% a year ago and 81% on average, with 5% blooming, compared to 2% both last year and on average. 94% of the winter wheat crop has headed, compared to 88% a year ago and 91% on average, with 48% harvested, compared to 25% last year and 16% on average. 54% of winter wheat is called good to excellent, up 1% from a week ago and 18% above a year ago. 33% of spring wheat has headed, compared to 1% last year and 7% on average, while 76% is rated good to excellent, 1% above the previous week and 4% more than this time last year. 40% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, down 1% on the week and 13% on the year.
