ASTA'S DOUGLAS CITED BY ACE
American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) reports:

The Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences (ACE) recognized Julie Douglas, American Seed Trade Association director of communications, with its Media Relations Award of Excellence June 13 in Annapolis, Md.

"Julie contributed to ACE's effectiveness through her volunteer efforts, primarily to the Media Relations Special Interest Group (SIG)," said Sandi Alswager-Karstens of the University of Nebraska Lincoln who nominated Douglas.

"Her organization kept the SIG running like a well-oiled machine and she was responsible for starting the online Adobe Connect sessions, which we now regularly offer professional development opportunities through."

The Award of Excellence recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the SIG area, as well as leadership and involvement in ACE. Douglas served as vice chair and chair for the Media Relations SIG. She most recently served as SIG director-elect and now serves as SIG director for the next two years and represents all the SIGS on the Board of Directors.

"Julie has established a strong communications plan for ASTA and continues to build on the program every day," said Andy LaVigne, ASTA president and chief executive officer. "During the 2011 ASTA CSS & Seed Expo, Julie introduced the first-ever trade show daily newspaper distributed to more than 2,500 people throughout the conference.

"Her outreach to the media has proven extremely beneficial to the seed industry in raising its exposure as the leading voice for the American seed industry. Being able to expand outreach efforts to members of the media who weren't being reached before, especially in this time of rapidly growing interest in seed and seed technology, has enabled ASTA to provide invaluable information and contacts for the media to use as experts on all things seed related."
