CHINA ENDS DDGS PROBE
Source: The Brock Report

China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Thursday announced it was immediately ending a one-and-a-half year anti-dumping probe on imports of U.S. DDGS (distillers dry grains with solids), a move that clears the way for increased U.S. sales of the feed ingredient to China. The MOC launched the probe at the behest of four Chinese ethanol makers, causing a sharp drop-off in trade that had grown rapidly during 2009 and 2010.

The ministry said the four companies had withdrawn their request on May 10, and asked for the termination of investigation, which had been due to run until June 28.

"It is good news for Chinese feed mills, which have been expecting this to happen for some time," an official of an industry body that promotes U.S. distillers' dried grains told Reuters News Service. China's imports of DDGS fell 47% in 2011 to 1.68 MMT because of the probe.

The 2010 DDGS imports of 3.16 MMT were a dramatic increase of 385% over the previous year. China's DDGS imports this year could hit 2 MMT, said the official, who declined to be identified.

China's DDGS imports in May jumped 346% to 294,704 MT, bringing January-May imports to 913,371 MT, official Customs data show. However, the industry official noted U.S. DDGS supplies are tight right now with some ethanol plants down for maintenance.
