AFA ANNOUNCES NEW VICE PRESIDENTS AND COORDINATORS
Source: Agriculture Future of America news release

Agriculture Future of America celebrated exciting growth in leadership and human capital this month.

During their June meeting, the AFA Board of Directors named Nancy Barcus vice president of leader and organization services and Mark Stewart AFA vice president of development and communications.

Barcus spent four years with AFA after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with degrees in horticulture and agriculture education leadership and communication. Following this time, she spent two years with Adayana, Inc in Washington, D.C., before returning to AFA in 2009 as director of leader development. Today she oversees all leader programs for AFA as well as the organization's infrastructure efforts. Barcus is a former participant in the AFA Leaders Conference and the AFA Student Advisory Team.

Stewart joined AFA as the director of development in 2011. He holds a B.S. and M.B.A. from Northwest Missouri State University and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri. Stewart formerly served as the director of development and communications for the Don Bosco Centers, Kansas City, Mo.; vice president for Hartsook Companies Inc. in Wichita. Kan.; and held development roles at Avila University and Northwest Missouri State University.

In addition to the promotions of Barcus and Stewart, AFA also welcomed two new employees at the end of May.

Derek Mulhern joined the team after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in agricultural education. He grew up in Fountain, Minn., on a Holstein dairy farm. Mulhern serves AFA as program coordinator and works closely with the AFA Student Advisory Team and Campus Ambassadors as well as AFA's collegiate partners and community scholar programs in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri. Previously, Derek has served as an intern for organizations such as AgriBank, AgriGold of AgReliant Genetics, the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture and National FFA.

Megan Karlin also joined AFA this past month as marketing and development coordinator. Karlin is from Manhattan, Kan., where she studied agricultural communications and journalism at Kansas State University. She coordinates communications for all of AFA's programing and development efforts and supports AFA's initiatives to cultivate new and existing partnerships. Before coming to AFA, she served as the communications intern at Kansas State's International Grains Program and the creative arts intern for Team Expansion, a missions sending organization based in Louisville, Ky.

"AFA is extremely pleased to announce promotions of two current staff, while welcoming two new members to its team," said Russ Weathers, AFA president and CEO. "The growth of AFA's programs by 38 percent in the past five years has created new opportunities for internal leadership and staff expansion."
