FOUR NAMED TO FARM FOUNDATION BOARD Jul. 2, 2012 Source: Farm Foundation news release Four executives from across the food and agribusiness value chain have been elected to the Board of Trustees of Farm Foundation. Elected were James (Tres) Bailey, Director of Agriculture and Food, Walmart; Claudia Garcia, Senior Director, Global Corporate Affairs, Elanco Animal Health; Steve Irsik, President, Irsik Equities; and William Nelson, President, CHS Foundation. The election took place earlier this month at the Board's annual meeting in Burlington, VT. "We are excited that these accomplished executives are adding their leadership to the Foundation's Board of Trustees," says Greg Heying, Chairman of the Board. A retail food industry consultant, Heying also chairs the Board of Directors of Farm Foundation, NFP, the operating entity of Farm Foundation. "At a time when food and agriculture systems are facing enormous challenges, it is imperative that Farm Foundation has leaders dedicated to providing public and private decision makers with comprehensive, objective information on the issues that will shape the future," Heying added. Farm Foundation, NFP currently has a major initiative -- A Dialogue On Food and Agriculture in the 21st Century -- to create opportunities for a full range of stakeholders to discuss critical issues before the industry. By 2050, forecasters estimate food demand will double. How to meet that food production need while maintaining and protecting natural resources has diverse and complex challenges. The initiative is undertaking work in four key areas: adaptability and resilience of food and agricultural systems; the goals and priorities of North American agriculture; the role of science and technology in agricultural production; and human capital needs in food and agriculture. Farm Foundation was created in 1933 as a trust governed by a 29-member Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees has responsibility for overseeing the endowment, and for naming the Board of Farm Foundation NFP. Created May 1, 2009, to carry out the programming mission of Farm Foundation, Farm Foundation, NFP is directed by a six-member Board appointed by the Farm Foundation Board of Trustees. The mission of the Foundation is to serve as a catalyst for sound public policy by providing objective information to foster a deeper understanding of issues shaping the future for agriculture, food systems and rural regions. The Foundation does not advocate or lobby. Farm Foundation has a 79-year commitment to objectivity, fostering the constructive debate that is essential to sound public policy development in a democracy. Tweet |
