MISSOURI CORN GROWER: FOOD PRICES SHOULDN'T SOAR BECAUSE OF DROUGHT Jul. 12, 2012 BrownfieldAgNews reports: A director of the National Corn Growers Association Board and the Missouri Corn Growers Association Board says with the effects of the drought on the nation's corn crop, consumers should not expect food prices to skyrocket. "I'd like to point out that General Mills released a statement saying that they didn't expect to see any more increase in food prices than what they had projected earlier which was 2 to 3 percent increase," says Mike Geske. Geske tells Brownfield consumers need to know that there's so little corn in the food that they buy. "I would like to assure the people that are shopping for food that they don't really have too awful much to worry about. It's not going to be any kind of a disaster for them like it is for agriculture," he says. Geske farms in the southeast Missouri Bootheel - hard hit by drought. Although many crops are irrigated he says the heat is having an impact on even irrigated corn right now. Tweet |
