Aug. 15, 2012 Source: Nat'l 4-H Council news release National 4-H Council is pleased to announce the newest addition to the Board of Trustees, Liz Varley. Varley joined New York Life in September 2010 as Vice President in the Office of Government Affairs where she focuses on legislative and regulatory issues relating to retirement income, securities, and investment management. "We are delighted to welcome Liz to National 4-H Council's Board of Trustees as she offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise in corporate and nonprofit governance," said Donald T. Floyd Jr., National 4-H Council president and CEO. "As we advance 4-H further into its high-quality positive youth development programming, it is fitting that we have such a forward-thinking and experienced Board member like Liz to help continue driving the organization's success." Prior to joining New York Life, Varley held the position of Managing Director of Government Affairs for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA). At SIFMA, she was responsible for legislative and regulatory issues relating to retirement policy and executive compensation. "I am very pleased to be joining the National 4-H Council Board of Trustees," said Ms. Varley. "As a former 4-H alum, I strongly believe in the organization's mission of developing youth with a 'learn by doing' approach which builds a foundation of leadership and skills for success in their future careers. Varley joined the legacy trade association, the Securities Industry Association (SIA) in 1999. Prior to joining the SIA, Varley held the position of Counsel at the Senate Special Committee on Aging from February of 1995 to April of 1999. While there, she covered pension, IRAs, Social Security, and Social Security disability issues. Before coming to the Aging committee, Varley was a staff attorney for the Bipartisan Commission on Entitlements and Tax Reform. Varley graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University Of Nebraska College Of Law in 1993 and also has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska in 1990. She is a Nebraska 4-H Alum.
