Sep. 4, 2012 American Soybean Association (ASA) reports: The Risk Management Agency (RMA) has announced plans to allow cover crops on damaged or destroyed acreage with haying or grazing to follow this fall or next spring. Such actions generally impact the insurability of spring-planted crops. RMA's announcement says, "To assure any spring planted crops in 2013 are not negatively impacted by cover crops, policyholders may be required to stop haying or grazing at a certain point in the spring and will be required to terminate the cover crop. Some regions may require the cover crop be terminated prior to it reaching the headed or budded stage and other regions prior to a specific date occurring generally in late April or early May." The full text of the Aug. 22, "Manager's Bulletin" is available at www.rma.usda.gov/news/currentissues/drought. Farmers should be sure to discuss these new requirements with their crop insurance agent. Tweet |
