Sep. 7, 2012 Farm Progress reports: As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) on Tuesday released a list of the ethanol and biodiesel industry's top 10 efficiency and technology innovations of the past decade. The list was compiled through a survey of IRFA's membership. "Much has been written about the growth of ethanol and biodiesel production ... but the untold success story is the corresponding efficiency and technology innovations," says IRFA Vice President and Absolute Energy CEO Rick Schwarck. "Today's renewable fuels industry is not your father's gasohol plant." Here is a quick list of those top 10 innovations: *corn production gains, *ethanol yield increases, *water utilization improvements, *energy efficiency enhancements, *lower-cost feedstocks for livestock producers, *corn oil extraction, *dried distillers grains with solubles enhancements, *new catalysts for biodiesel production, *advanced process controls, and *unit train utilization. All have been part of the rise of ethanol. Tweet |
