CROPLIFE AMERICA OPENS SEARCH FOR NEW GENERAL COUNSEL
Source: CropLife America news release

CropLife America (CLA), the national trade association representing the developers, manufacturers and distributors of crop protection products, has announced an executive search for the position of vice president and general counsel for the organization.

Mr. Doug Nelson, CLA's executive vice president and general counsel for the past 17 years, will transition to a new role of senior advisor for intellectual property, trade and strategic issues following a transition period with the new general counsel.

"Doug Nelson has established CLA as a recognized leader in legal affairs proactivity during his tenure as our general counsel. As part of our integrated leadership team, he has allowed our organization to become one of the most effective and efficient cross-functional organizations in American agriculture," said Jay Vroom, president and CEO of CLA.

"Doug's proven legal track record at CLA positions the association to be an attractive employer as we approach this important transition. We are fortunate that Doug will continue to assist our domestic organization and our global federation on issues of trade and intellectual property."

"CropLife America represents the crop protection and biotechnology industries effectively in Washington, D.C. By partnering with other organizations, CLA is positioned as a leader in nearly every public policy forum around the world. Legal matters are one of the most critical issue areas for our industry, and I anticipate that CLA will attract top ranked candidates in our search to fill the general counsel position," noted CLA Board Chairman John Chrosniak of DuPont Crop Protection.

"Thanks to Doug Nelson for his service to our industry and his commitment to maintaining continuity in the industry's intellectual property and trade issue categories moving forward."

CLA's former Law Committee chair and current member of the association's Strategic Oversight Council Steve Goldberg of BASF observed, "The notion of integrated functionality across legal, lobbying, communications and science/regulatory functions has been well-established at CLA, and is a model for operational effectiveness for other trade associations. The law function in the plant sciences arena is especially crucial considering the extensive regulatory framework that is our industry's license to operate. CLA will need a strong individual to pick up the leadership reigns from our effective incumbent, Doug Nelson, to lead the future of the organization."

"CLA is a dynamic and agile organization that serves as a key driver of modern agriculture," noted Vroom. "We are excited to recruit for new general counsel from a pool of experienced and energetic candidates interested in being a part of the leadership of a science-based industry."

Interested candidates for the CLA search should contact Ms. Laisha Dismuke in the CLA Human Resources Department at (202) 872-3858 or ldismuke@croplifeamerica.org for more information.
