Sep. 13, 2012 Source: Biotechnology Industry Organization news release The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today Justin Chesnut, Director of the Poultry Business Unit for Elanco Animal Health, will deliver the opening keynote address at the BIO Livestock Biotech Summit this September. Dr. Jon Hagler, Missouri Director of Agriculture will deliver the Summit's Friday keynote. This unique conference, focused on developing global solutions through animal biotechnology, will include workshops on the latest applications and benefits of genetically engineered animals for animal health, welfare, human health and food production. Chesnut will deliver his keynote address on Using Technology to Feed the World on Wednesday, September 19, 10:15am CDT. Chesnut will speak to the importance of using science innovations to feed a growing worldwide population and why the work of those in agriculture biotechnology is so important for the future. "Justin's opening keynote is a welcome addition to the Summit as we begin our conversations on using technology to create solutions for global food and health security," said David Edwards, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO. "Elanco's vision that through new technology and innovative approaches to animal health, we can enrich life is a principle the ag biotech has embraced as it plays a key role in helping to meet the challenges of healing, fueling and feeding a projected 9 billion people on earth by 2050." Hagler will deliver his keynote address on The Future of Agriculture on Friday, September 21, 12pm CDT. As Missouri's agriculture leader, Hagler has raised agriculture's profile by emphasizing the importance of this industry and ag-related jobs to the state's overall economy and its relevance to every consumer. "Dr. Hagler is an excellent addition to the Summit as we discuss animal biotechnology's key role in modern agriculture," said David Edwards, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO.
