FARM FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES "PERSPECTIVE ON GLOBAL AGRICULTURAL POLICIES" FORUM

The landscape and performance of global agricultural policies will be the focus of the Farm Foundation® Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
The Forum, Perspectives on Global Agricultural Policies, will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. EDT at the National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington D.C. There is no charge to participate but registration is requested by noon Monday, Sept. 17. Click here to send your e-mail registration. At the Forum, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will officially release its 2012 Agricultural Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Report, which has a special focus on policies related to agricultural innovation and productivity. This annual report, which will be released at the same time in Brussels, assesses agricultural policy developments and support across the 34-member OECD countries.
Speakers at the Forum will include:
• Frank van Tongeren, head of the Division of Policies in Trade and Agriculture at the OECD Trade and Agriculture Directorate, will provide an overview of the OECD report.
• Keith Fuglie, Chief of the Resource, Environmental and Science Policy Branch in the Resource and Rural Economics Division of USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), will provide perspectives on productivity and innovation policies.
• Riikka Rajalahti, Senior Agricultural Specialist at the World Bank, will offer perspectives from developing countries.
• Farm Foundation President Neil Conklin will discuss U.S. farm policy issues.
After their brief presentations, the floor will be opened for discussion.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, ERS will host a seminar, Agricultural Markets and Food Security. The seminar will be 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the ERS Conference Room, Patriots Plaza II, 355 E Street SW, Washington, D.C. Entry is to the left just past the security desk on the lobby level. Pre-registration is not required for this event. ERS Administrator Mary Bohman will moderate the event. Speakers will include:
Short-term outlook: Pete Riley, USDA Farm Service Agency.
Medium-term outlook: Wayne Jones, OECD.
Renewable Fuels Standards: Wallace Tyner, Purdue University, one of the authors of the report, Potential Impacts of a Partial Waiver of Ethanol Blending Rules.
Long-term outlook: Seth Meyer, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
Global food security: Stacey Rosen, USDA Economic Research Service, one of the authors of ERS's International Food Security Assessment 2012-2022.
Who should participate in the Forum: People with an interest in agricultural, food and rural policy, including members of Congress, congressional staff, executive branch officials, industry representatives, NGO representatives, academics and members of the media.
The Forum: Farm Foundation, NFP organizes these public forums to engage all stakeholders in informed dialogue on food, agricultural and rural policies. Participants examine current policies, explore and analyze alternative policy proposals, and give voice to new proposals.
