USDA APPROVES CHARM SCIENCES' AFLATOXIN TEST

Charm Sciences, Inc. receives approval from USDA's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) verifying the performance of ROSA WET Aflatoxin Quantitative Test. The ROSA WET Aflatoxin Quantitative Test provides quantitative aflatoxin results in 5 minutes using Water Extraction Technology (WET), an extraction method that uses a non-hazardous extraction powder added to the sample followed by water to extract aflatoxin.
The 5 minute quantitative test is GIPSA approved on the existing ROSA-M Reader for 16 commodities: Barley, Corn, Corn Flour, Corn Germ Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Corn Meal, Corn/Soy Blend, Distiller's Dried Grain with Solubles, Hominy, Oats, Popcorn, Rice Bran (defatted), Rough Rice, Sorghum, Soybeans, and Wheat.
"The ROSA WET Aflatoxin Quantitative Test provides the feed and grain industry with a simple and convenient lateral flow test for quantitative detection of aflatoxin using water for extraction," says Charm's John Jabour. "The Water Extraction Technology provides a sustainable solution to monitor mycotoxins that eliminates the storage, shipping, and disposal requirements necessary with ethanol or methanol extraction."
About WET (Water Extraction Technology)
The WET method extracts mycotoxins with water, eliminating the need of organic solvents such as methanol and ethanol. Mycotoxins are extracted using a non-hazardous, biodegradable extraction powder added to the sample followed by water (e.g., bottled water). Water can be discharged safely down the drain providing that positive mycotoxin samples do not violate local regulations. The WET method can use a single extraction for multiple mycotoxins, including aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, fumonisin, T2/HT2, and zearalenone. For Ochratoxin, a separate extraction powder is required. WET mycotoxin tests are manufactured for each mycotoxin.
