Sep. 25, 2012 Red River Farm Network reports: Monsanto and North Dakota State University (NDSU) have announced a new collaboration to improve the NDSU spring wheat breeding program. NDSU Vice President of Agricultural Affairs and dean, Ken Grafton, says this collaboration will accelerate the school's spring wheat breeding program. While there is a dollar commitment, Grafton says the primary driver of this collaboration is technology. "We're going to have access to their germplasm on a limited basis, as will they have access to our germplasm on a limited basis," said Grafton, "We will have access to markers and market technology and we will be working with them to develop new markets for specific traits that are important to us." Grafton says technology available from Monsanto and the expertise at NDSU will move the university's wheat breeding program "to the next level." This is a non-exclusive partnership, allowing NDSU to continue to pursue collaboration with other companies. Tweet |
