FL FRUIT & VEGETABLE ASSN NAMES CANADIAN FIRM MERCHANDISER OF THE YEAR

The Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association presented its Merchandiser of the Year Award today to Loblaw Companies of Canada.
In nominating the company, David Neill, president of Diamond Tomato Co., Triangle Farms and Big Red Tomato Packers, said the company "has proven to be a strong supporter of Big Red Tomato Packers as well as supporting a variety of Florida products from other vendors.
"Additionally, Loblaw champions direct farm sourcing by working directly with farmers, employing local representatives to facilitate direct farm supply lines and featuring Florida products throughout Canada," Neill said. "Loblaw's dedication to their customers manifests itself in its dedication to food safety and quality produce. The company chooses Florida agriculture over other outlets (when available) because Florida farmers are dedicated to providing consistent, delicious and safe produce," Neill said.
With more than 1,000 corporate and franchised stores from coast to coast, Loblaw and its franchisees employ more than 135,000 full- and part-time employees. The company is the largest grocery retailer in Canada and one of Canada's largest private-sector employers.
The award was announced at FFVA's 69th Annual Convention Awards Luncheon in Naples. Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association is an agricultural trade organization representing Florida's producers of fruits, vegetables and other crops.
