 Sep. 25, 2012 BrownfieldAgNews reports: USDA reports harvest activity for corn and soybeans was widespread around the U.S. last week and both crops continue to develop faster than normal following a very hot, dry summer in many key growing areas. As of Sunday, 88% of the corn crop has reached maturity, compared to 58% a year ago and the five year average of 57%. 39% has been harvested, compared to 12% last year and 13% on average. 24% of corn is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week, and 51% is rated poor to very poor, up 1%. 73% of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 51% last year and 59% on average 22% has been harvested, compared to 4% a year ago and 8% on average. 35% of beans are called good to excellent, up 2% from last week, and 34% is rated poor to very poor, down 2%. 25% of the winter wheat crop is planted, compared to 22% a year ago and 27% on average. 20% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 1% above a week ago, and 56% is poor to very poor, steady with last week.
