U OF ILLINOIS SEEKS LECTURER FOR ITS AGRICULTURAL COMMICATIONS PROGRAM

Applications are invited for a Lecturer position in the Agricultural Communications Program, a joint academic program of the College of Media and College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The lecturer appointment will be based in the Department of Journalism within the College of Media. This position reports directly to the head of Journalism and will work closely with the interim program director of Agricultural Communications and responsibilities include:

• Teach courses for the Agricultural Communications Program that defines agriculture broadly to pertain to all dimensions of the food system and natural resources. Courses will serve majors and non-majors.

• Manage service activities for the Program, which may include assisting career services in providing guidance and support for students, assisting Student Services in student recruitment and retention, alumni and industry relations, program marketing/public relations, interaction with the Illini Chapter of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and other program needs. Collaborate with student, alumni, and communications services available in the two colleges.

• Serve as a member of the Agricultural Communications Program Committee, assisting in course and curricula development, and other dimensions of the Program.

• Assist with external projects and funding endeavors for the teaching, research and public service agendas of the Program.

Qualifications:

Required: Master's degree. At least three years of professional experience in agricultural journalism/agricultural communications. Ability to teach in the areas of agricultural journalism and mass communications, including agricultural aspects of scientific and risk communications; role of media and journalism in communicating about agricultural issues; development communication; and written and multimedia journalistic storytelling.

Preferred: Experience in teaching, advising and mentoring students, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary groups. Previous experience in event coordination, project planning, grant writing and pedagogical approaches to online teaching are highly regarded.

This is a 12-month, full-time appointment with a proposed start date of January 16, 2013. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
