ABC FILES MOTION TO DISMISS BPI'S DEFAMATION CASE OVER LFTB
Farm Progress reports:

Lawyers for ABC News on Wednesday submitted a motion to dismiss the Beef Products Inc. (BPI) September lawsuit against the news group and three of its reporters for defamation.

BPI says ABC intentionally published disparaging statements regarding BPI and its product, lean finely textured beef.

ABC's motion says the BPI lawsuit seeks to inhibit free speech and poses a challenge to the right of a news organization to explore matters of public interest, according to a report from Reuters.

In the motion, lawyers representing ABC wrote, " 'Pink slime is exactly the sort of 'loose, figurative or hyperbolic language' that courts recognize demands protection under the First Amendment,' Reuters says."
