BAYER CROPSCIENCE ANNOUNCES NEW "COTTON BELT CHALLENGE" CONTEST
Source: Bayer CropScience news release

Bayer CropScience announces a new achievement program to recognize U.S. growers who plant FiberMax® and Stoneville® cotton seed and produce high-yielding and high-quality cotton. The Bayer CropScience Cotton Belt Challenge™ is open to all growers who plant a minimum of 50 acres of FiberMax or Stoneville cotton.

Winners will be recognized in two categories - highest yield and highest quality, based on loan value- in 12 different regions, for both irrigated and dryland cotton.

Prizes will be awarded to all regional winners in each category for irrigated and dryland entries. From those regional winners there will be two grand prize drawings - one for irrigated and one for dryland - for a custom 4WD Bad Boy Buggies® Ambush™.

"Growers ultimately plant FiberMax and Stoneville cotton for one reason - profitable production on their farms - and Bayer CropScience wants to acknowledge and reward cotton growers who plant cottonseed from Bayer CropScience and achieve outstanding yields and quality," said Jeff Brehmer, U.S. marketing manager for FiberMax and Stoneville cotton.

"The Bayer CropScience Cotton Belt Challenge is unique because it gives growers a chance to be rewarded on a regional level for producing high-yielding and high-quality cotton that maximizes their on-farm profitability," Brehmer said.

To qualify, growers must submit their yield and quality results from a minimum of 50 acres and verify their production through gin receipts. If any portion of a field is irrigated, then the entry must be in the irrigated category.

Regions for the contest are as follows:

• California and Arizona (irrigated only)
• Central and Southern Rolling Plains and Trans-Pecos area of the Southwest
• Far North High Plains, North High Plains, North Rolling Plains and Oklahoma
• South and East Texas
• Georgia, South Alabama and North Florida
• Tennessee and North Alabama
• South Arkansas and Louisiana
• Mississippi
• Central Arkansas
• Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas
• Virginia and Northeast North Carolina
• Central North Carolina and South Carolina

With regional awards, the Bayer CropScience Cotton Belt Challenge recognizes the unique production environments across the Cotton Belt where weather, water availability, regional pests and soil types all contribute to final yields and quality. With 12 contest regions, farmers are rewarded for excellence in cotton production for their local geography.

"Our goal is to help the farmer select the best-performing varieties for better profitability and on-farm success," Brehmer said. "As farmers work with our agronomists and sales representatives to plant the right FiberMax or Stoneville variety on their farms, we have seen them achieve remarkable yields and quality for their area - and we want to recognize them for that success."
