NEW RECORD SET FOR SO. DAKOTA FARMLAND Feb. 25, 2013 BrownfieldAgNews reports: Two tracts of cropland in Spink County, South Dakota set a new record yesterday. Located near Mellette, the tracts sold for $8,200 an acre. According to Aberdeen News, Spink County director of equalization Kim Markley says this is the first time land has sold for over $8,000 an acre. Other parcels of land sold from $4,250 to $7,700 an acre. In all, the seven quarter-sections (a total of 1,078 acres) sold for a total price of $7.39 million. Auctioneer Val Jark says, "It isn't often you get this good a package of land coming up for sale." He added most of the land had been in the family for five generations.
