NEW RECORD SET FOR SO. DAKOTA FARMLAND

BrownfieldAgNews reports:
Two tracts of cropland in Spink County, South Dakota set a new record yesterday. Located near Mellette, the tracts sold for $8,200 an acre.
According to Aberdeen News, Spink County director of equalization Kim Markley says this is the first time land has sold for over $8,000 an acre.
Other parcels of land sold from $4,250 to $7,700 an acre.
In all, the seven quarter-sections (a total of 1,078 acres) sold for a total price of $7.39 million.
Auctioneer Val Jark says, "It isn't often you get this good a package of land coming up for sale." He added most of the land had been in the family for five generations.
The land was from the estate of Dianne Goldin Craft.
