MID AMERICA CROPLIFE ASSN ANNOUNCES ITS YOUNG LEADER SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The MACA Board of Directors has selected twelve college students to receive the MACA Young Leader Scholarship of $2,000 to be used for their college expenses.

This is the first year for the program which is designed to expose future agriculturalists to the crop protection industry and future career opportunities.

Recipients will benefit from the financial compensation, exposure and networking with MACA members. MACA members benefit by developing a talent pool of future industry leaders and through the heightened awareness of MACA within the participating universities.

The candidate's educational focus is agriculture and all are enrolled at one of the Land-Grant Universities in the MACA region. They have secured a summer internship (2013) within agriculture, preferably within the crop protection industry.

Additionally, the selected recipient is expected to attend the MACA Annual Meeting September 3-5, 2013 in Broomfield, Colorado to speak about their internship experience and participate in the meeting with MACA members.

The recipients by state/university include:

Colorado - Lily Niknami is pursuing a Soil & Crop Science major at Colorado State University. Her 2013 internship is with the USDA-ARS-Water Management Research Unit in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Illinois - Brad Bernhard attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he is a Crop Science major. He will be interning with GROWMARK's Heritage FS in Gilman, Illinois.

Indiana - Kelsey Tuholski is attending Purdue University where she is a Soil & Crop Science major. Her internship in 2013 is with Select Seed, a division of GROWMARK, Inc.

Iowa - Iowa State University's Bethany Olson has two majors, Agricultural Business and International Agriculture, and a minor in Agronomy. She will intern with DuPont Pioneer this summer.

Kansas - Paige Druffel attends Kansas State University pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications and Journalism. Her summer internship is with Monsanto.

Michigan -Krista Janeshek is pursuing a Crop & Soil Science major and Agribusiness Management minor at Michigan State University. This will be her third internship with Wilbur-Ellis.

Minnesota - Nicholas Peterson remains in his home state to attend the University of Minnesota while pursuing an Applied Plant Science major and Soil Science minor. Peterson is a two time intern with Winfield of Land O'Lakes Inc.

Missouri - University of Missouri student Andrew Perry is majoring in Agricultural Economics and Plant Science. This will be his second summer working as an intern for Pioneer.

Nebraska - Justin Loeffelhoz is majoring in Agronomy with an Integrated Crop Management option while a student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. This summer his internship will be with Dow AgroSciences at their Mycogen plant in York, Nebraska, where he will learn about the management of seed corn.

North Dakota - Morgan Hanson attends North Dakota State University and is majoring in Crop and Weed Science. She'll be an intern with Winfield Solutions for the second time this summer.

South Dakota - Ted Berckes attends South Dakota State University where he is pursuing a major in Agronomy. Berckes will work as a summer intern at Helena Chemical Company, for the second time, but will have different responsibilities this year.

Wisconsin - Leanna Leverich attends the University of Wisconsin - Madison and is working on a double major in Agricultural and Applied Economics plus Life Science Communication. Leverich will be working as the Capital Newspaper's Agri-View Sales and Editorial Intern at their office in Madison, Wisconsin.

After completing their summer internships the scholarship recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their tuition expenses.
