SYNGENTA PRESENTS KANSAS WHEAT INNOVATION CENTER WITH RESEARCH GIFT FOR ITS TEST KITCHEN

Syngenta joins the Kansas wheat-growing community in celebrating the dedication and opening of the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center, a pioneering endeavor that brings wheat researchers, thought leaders and state-of-the-art equipment under one roof.

"This is an exciting initiative at a pivotal time for the wheat industry," said Rollie Sears, North American cereals R&D manager for Syngenta. "Syngenta is committed to transforming cereals production worldwide by developing and supporting innovative solutions, and the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center is a unique facility that we are looking forward to working with now and into the future."

Located on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, Kan., the center is expected to attract industry leaders, international groups and other key influencers.

It also houses the Syngenta "Speak for Wheat" Test Kitchen, a modern, high-tech space that will provide facilities for testing hundreds of new and existing wheat recipes developed by the Kansas Wheat Commission. An adjoining boardroom can be transformed into a classroom to teach consumers and educators about the nutritional value of bread and other wheat foods.

Syngenta is supporting the test kitchen through a five-year research gift funded through the certified seed sales of Syngenta and AgriProŽ brand wheat varieties in Kansas. That includes the sales of two varieties new to Kansas this season: SY Wolf, a top choice for wheat-on-wheat acres with proven yield performance, and SY Southwind, which features strong Hessian fly and Barley Yellow Dwarf tolerance plus high yield potential.

"Syngenta's investment in research at the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center is greatly appreciated and will pay big dividends for wheat farmers throughout the Plains," said Justin Gilpin, CEO of Kansas Wheat. "By being a part of this collaborative research effort, Syngenta is signalling its long-term commitment to being a leader in the wheat industry."

The center also serves as the new home for organizations such as the Kansas Wheat Commission, the Kansas Wheat Alliance, Kansas Wheat and the Kansas Foundation for Ag in the Classroom. More than 35,000 square feet in size, it contains a 10,000 square-foot greenhouse complex and 15,000 square feet of advanced wheat breeding laboratories.

"Wheat is a priority crop for Syngenta, and it's an extremely important crop for the world," Sears said.

"It's why we've accelerated our investment in cereals research, why we've expanded North America's largest wheat breeding program, why we've introduced more than a dozen new U.S. wheat varieties over the past year and why we support the types of educational initiatives to be hosted in the Syngenta 'Speak for Wheat' Test Kitchen."
