PURDUE WORKSHOPS TO GIVE CURRENT INFORMATION ON CROP DEVELOPMENT
Source: Purdue University news release

Crop producers and people involved in field scouting can learn about what to look for at different times of the growing season during two workshops offered by Purdue University.

An early-season diagnostic workshop will be June 12, and a mid-season diagnostic workshop is scheduled for July 24.

Corey Gerber, director of Purdue's Crop Diagnostic Training and Research Center, said while the workshops are primarily geared toward producers, they will also be good for anyone working in agriculture, particularly those in seed or chemical businesses.

"We'll be focusing on things during that time of the year - what's happening to date - for corn and soybean production," he said. "We want to give people a heads-up on how development is going, stressors to look for and what those stressors or problems might mean for yield down the road."

Both workshops will include discussions about plant diseases and insect pests, as well as corn and soybean growth, development and stressors - all specific to either early or mid-season.

The mid-season workshop also will include sessions on tracking nitrogen with sensor technologies and issues with soybean and corn nematodes.

The workshops will run from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE), on U.S. 52 seven miles northwest of the Purdue campus.

Continuing certification hours for commercial pesticide and fertilizer applicators and continuing education units for certified crop advisers will be available.

Each workshop is $110 per person. Make checks payable to Purdue University. Register by printing a brochure at https://ag.purdue.edu/agry/dtc/Documents/2013-DTC.pdf and mailing the form and payment to the Purdue Crop Diagnostic Training and Research Center, Purdue University Agronomy Department, 915 W. State St., West Lafayette, IN 47907.
