"Plowing Straight in an Uneven Economy" is the theme for the annual seminar series presented by Hoosier Ag Today at the Indiana-Illinois Farm Equipment Show and sponsored by Sikich LLP.

Farmers are familiar with uncertain weather and market trends, but uncertain policy and economic trends for 2014 is another matter.

"We are going to bring together some of the best minds in Indiana agriculture to give growers an outlook at what kind of issues they are going to have to deal with in the next growing season," said Gary Truitt, President of Hoosier Ag Today.

"Uncertainty about crop insurance, interest rates, market prices, and environmental regulations will all be addressed during the seminar series which will span the three days of the farm show. In addition, Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann will participate in the series to provide an outlook on state farm policy and direction. "

The Tuesday seminar will focus on taxation, legal, financial and regularity issues. A panel of attorneys, accountants, and bankers will provide guidance on changing tax laws, regulations, and estate planning issues.

"There have been a many changes in these areas. Our panel will guide farmers through the minefield of tax laws and legal regulations and help them pay less tax and avoid fines, penalties, and lawsuits," said Truitt. A look ahead of interest rates and the state of the farm credit market in 2014 will also be covered.

The Wednesday seminar will feature Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann who will make her first appearance at the farm show. She will provide an overview of the state's farm policies and priorities for 2014.

She will also discuss the just announced appointment of Ted McKinney as director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

Following Ellspermann, Dr. Chris Hurt, well-known Ag Economist at Purdue with his annual outlook presentation. Dr. Hurt will outline the factors that will impact the market and farmers' profits in 2014 and offer recommendations on how producers can best manage their risk and maximize their profits.

On Thursday, the focus will be the futures market. Jim Riley, Tom Fritz, and Mike Silver, market analysts, will present a detailed plan for marketing the 2013 and 2014 crops. Growers will have the opportunity to talk informally with these experts to discuss their individual situations and marketing challenges.

Seminars each day will begin at 11 AM and will be held in a special area on the west side of the West Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The seminars will be hosted by Hoosier Ag Today broadcasters Gary Truitt, Andy Eubank, and Cayla McLeland. Door prizes will be presented at the end of each seminar. This 2013 seminar series is being sponsored by Sikich LLP, a recognized accounting firm providing a variety of professional services to Indiana farmers and agribusinesses.

The Indiana-Illinois Farm and Outdoor Power Equipment Show will be held December 17-19 in the West Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The show will feature Over 160,000 square feet of new equipment, products and services from 350 Ag companies including great displays of Deere, Case, Cat, Agco, the major short liners, self-propelled sprayers, and the largest selection of outdoor power equipment ever shown in Indianapolis. Show hours are 9am-4pm Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9am-3pm on Thursday. Admission is free to the farmer.
