ASSN OF EQUIPMENT MFGRS: FARM BILL ASSURES CERTAINTY FOR AG INDUSTRY, PROTECTION FOR JOBS
Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) reports:

The five-year Farm Bill signed into law by President Obama on February 7, 2014, will assure certainty for the agriculture industry and protection for thousands of U.S. manufacturing jobs. The bill had previously passed the House of Representatives and the Senate with bipartisan support.

"On behalf of America's equipment manufacturers, I thank Members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate for working together to pass a much-needed and long-awaited five-year Farm Bill," said AEM President Dennis Slater.

"American agriculture is a large part of our economy, and those directly and indirectly employed in the industry depend on the certainty of a long-term Farm Bill. I am pleased Congress took action to protect America's agriculture industry and U.S. jobs.

"This bipartisan bill implements important reforms for the future of farm programs, while maintaining a solid safety net that American agriculture depends on."

Bill highlights include:

Elimination of direct payments
Strengthening of crop insurance programs
Repeal of outdated programs and consolidation of duplicative ones, resulting in elimination of nearly 100 programs or authorizations
Streamlining of conservation programs
Reduction in spending by $23 billion
