FERTILIZER BARGES ARRIVE IN UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER, LATEST START IN HISTORY
Red River Farm Network (RRFN) reports:

The first barges of the season arrived in St. Paul overnight Wednesday.

Upper River Services President Lee Nelson tells RRFN this is one of the latest starts on record. "I believe, with the exception of 2001 when floodwaters got here before barges could get up this far, it's the latest start in the last 20 years. It could be the latest we've ever had."

According to Nelson, barges are carrying fertilizer north just in time for the rush of the season. With the delays in the rail system, Nelson expects to see more grain move on the Mississippi River.
