4-H TEAMS WIN NATIONAL ROBOTICS CONTEST
Jennifer Sirangelo, Nat'l 4-H Council CEO reports:

4-H'ers won 1st and 2nd place at the 2014 FIRST Championship in St. Louis, Missouri over the weekend; considered by many the Super Bowl of FIRST Robotics. The event is the largest national competition that many 4-H'ers participate in to culminate their year-long Robotics Club program.

Two Maryland 4-H teams came out on top in the FIRST Tech Challenge. The 4-H Techno Clovers team from Accident, Maryland was a member of the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship Winning Alliance. Second place went to the alliance that included the 4-H Green Machine from Ellicott City, Maryland.

The Maryland teams were among 17 4-H robotics teams that traveled to St. Louis to compete with hundreds of other teams. In all, more than 12,000 students, 600 teams, from 38 countries, ages 6 to 18, participated in the events.

This year marks a fifth-year partnership for 4-H with FIRST Robotics and since our first year 69 4-H teams have advanced to the championship competition with the support of our dedicated volunteers, coaches, mentors and sponsors including Lockheed Martin and JC Penney.

We are so proud of the 2014 participating and winning 4-H teams. Congratulations to Trustee and Maryland 4-H State Program Leader Jeff Howard!
