GOWAN, NICHINO AMERICA END THEIR FUNGICIDE DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT
Source: Gowan news release

Flutolanil (Moncut 70DF Fungicide and Moncoat MZ Fungicide) has been a strong-performing fungicide in Gowan Company's portfolio since 2005.

The active ingredient has been marketed in several key crops under many different formulations, and in recent years it has attained a solid market position in potatoes.

Flutolanil is part of the SDHI chemistry group, which is a group of fungicides that have excellent activity on Rhizoctonia.

Recently, this class of chemistry has seen several new compounds launch in the potato market with others expected in the near future.

With the increased competition, an evaluation was conducted to determine whether Gowan could remain competitive under a supplier agreement with Nichino America who is the basic manufacturer for the compound.

After this evaluation, it was determined that Nichino America will not renew the distribution agreement with Gowan and instead will market the Flutolanil brands of Moncut and Moncoat MZ to distribution customers through their own organization.

"Nichino America greatly appreciates the efforts and energy of Gowan to build the Moncut and Moncoat MZ franchise into solid and well-respected products in the marketplace," commented Dustin Simmons, Nichino America Director of Marketing.

"Gowan continues to be a valuable marketing partner for Nichino America and other mutual supply agreements will not be impacted by this transition."

Nichino America will acquire marketing and distribution rights of Moncut and Moncoat MZ on July 1, 2014. Over the next several weeks, Gowan and Nichino America will work to ensure a smooth transition.

"Gowan wishes to thank all of the customers and growers who have helped make Flutolanil one of the top products for Rhizoctonia control over the years. Gowan remains dedicated to providing new, innovative plant protection solutions to the market and helping customers solve problems in the fields" said Julie Butcher, Gowan Product Manager.
