MICHIGAN CORN GROWERS REJECT CHECK-OFF INCREASE
Source: Corn Marketing Program Of Michigan news release

Michigan corn growers recently rejected a measure that would have increased the amount growers invest in Michigan's corn check-off by one penny per bushel.

"While we're disappointed in the results, we have great respect for our growers and members," said MARK KIES, president of the Corn Marketing Program Of Michigan (CMPM).

"We'll be taking a close look at the results and having conversations with our board and corn growers across the state to decide how we can proceed and best serve the interests of Michigan growers. Now, more than ever, we believe that Michigan corn growers need a strong and sophisticated marketing program to defend our industry against the increasing barrage of attacks and misinformation.

"We look forward to continuing to work with our growers and members to advance Michigan's corn industry and grow our members businesses."

The CMPM is the only organization solely dedicated to promoting Michigan's corn growers and educating policymakers, opinion leaders, the media and consumers about the corn industry. CMPM funds are used to promote and market corn and all of its applications to consumers, fund cutting-edge research that improves yields and finds new profitable uses for corn and develop domestic and foreign market access for Michigan's corn growers.

This vote was the first time in the 20-year history of the CMPM that growers were asked to approve an increase in the amount they invest in the check-off. The funds would have been used to expand educational and research programs and aggressively and proactively educate consumers, lawmakers and the media to fight back against misinformation and attacks on the industry, its products and practices.
