THE PASSING OF TONY BLUM
Cedar Rapids (IA) Gazette and ZoomInfo.com reports:

Anthony "Tony" G. Blum of Surprise, Ariz., passed away May 14, 2014, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.

Tony was raised on a farm in Minnesota and after earning a master's degree in political science from the University of Iowa, attained prominence in the field of marketing, advising global brands on product development and marketing strategy.

Tony had 20-plus years' experience in marketing research. He rejoined Jefferson Davis Associates in early 2001 after beginning his career at and spending eight years helping build the firm in the 1980s.

He left Jefferson Davis Associates in 1988 to create and lead a marketing research and planning unit at Northrup King Co. (NK), then part of Sandoz Seeds.At NK, he held various positions, his last as Director of Communications.

During the 1990s, Tony served in marketing research, communications, business and strategic planning positions at two other seed companies - Mycogen Seeds and AgriBioTech, Inc. (ABT).

At ABT, he was Vice President and Director of Communications, Planning, and Development of the publicly held company.

Tony was a Ph.D. program student in political science at the University of Iowa, where he earned an M.A. He earned an undergraduate double-major degree in psychology and political science from Southwest State University in Minnesota.
