COUNTRIES BANNING U.S. PORK IMPORTS DUE TO PEDV
Red River Farm Network reports:

Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) is having an impact on pork exports.

Eleven countries have limited imports of live hogs and one has banned pork imports, according to USDA veterinarian John Clifford.

El Salvador, Guatemala and South Africa have banned imports of live hogs from the U.S.; China, Japan, the European Union and Russia have restricted hog imports while four other countries have imposed unofficial restrictions.

Clifford says PEDv is beginning to have a much greater impact on exports than anyone thought it would. Last year, the U.S. exported about $6 billion worth of pork and about $30.5 million worth of live hogs.
