IOWA STATE TO HOST MEETING OF SCIENTISTS AND FARMERS
Source: Iowa State University news release

Resilient Agriculture is a conference designed to bring farmers and agricultural scientists together for three days.

It's an opportunity for farmers to hear the latest scientific findings on practices that are being tested for their effectiveness in making corn-based farming systems more resilient and sustainable.

Farmers also will participate in hands-on activities in the field to increase their understanding of the practices being researched and to learn how to use new decision support tools.

In addition, farmers will have access to project scientists, who are looking forward to sharing their expertise and hearing from farmers who attend, about their challenges and successes when it comes to practices that make corn-based systems more resilient in times of drought, reduce soil and nutrient losses under saturated conditions, reduce farm field nitrogen losses, retain carbon in the soil and ensure crop productivity.

"The underlying premise of the Sustainable Corn Project is that farmers are problem solvers and with sound science they are better able to identify and develop strategies necessary to adapt to extreme weather events and changing weather patterns," said Lois Wright Morton, director of the project.

Registration is now open and farmers are encouraged attend. Scholarships are available for future farmers. The meeting agenda, location, registration, and more details can be found at www.sustainablecorn.org.

The conference is sponsored by the USDA's Sustainable Corn Project and the 25x'25 Alliance.
