PAULSEN MARKETING ADDS COPYWRITER, NAMES SUMMER INTERN
Source: Paulsen Marketing news release

Paulsen welcomes Katie Hayward as copywriter extraordinaire. Katie grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, before attending college at Iowa State University in the great city of Ames, Iowa.

She received her bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and two minors-one in Creative Writing and one in Advertising with an emphasis on Public Relations. Following college, Katie went on to write for an agricultural advertising agency in Des Moines where she fell in love with the ag industry and the people who work in it.

"Growing up in the city, I'll admit I was one of the many consumers who was completely disconnected from where my food was from-it wasn't even a thought when I went to the grocery store," says Katie. "Now that I have been given the opportunity to work with producers and distributors, I feel an overwhelming duty to help bridge that disconnect and educate the general public on the importance and beauty of sustainable, modern agriculture."

On the weekends, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, Grant, and writing lengthy biographies for her two feline friends, Hamilton and Harriet. Since moving to South Dakota she has learned how to fish, garden and make beef jerky.

"Go Cyclones," Katie adds. Because she can.

Chelsey Johnson, our summer public relations intern, is the first in Paulsen history to have her head carved in a 90-pound block of butter. Chelsey Johnson is spending her summer in the Paulsen PR department. She was a Princess Kay of the Milky Way finalist in 2011, and part of that honor involved being immortalized in butter (see photo above).

Chelsey will graduate from SDSU in December of 2014 with a double major in Agricultural Communications and Dairy Production as well as minors in Advertising and Animal Science, along with a basketball coaching certification. She grew up on a 90-cow, 320-acre dairy farm in rural Heron Lake, Minnesota, and has been involved in the operation throughout college.

Chelsey's previous internships kept her busy, too. She was the 24th Hoard's Dairyman Editorial Intern in 2012 where she had the opportunity to travel to 14 different dairies in Kansas and Michigan as well as attend a variety of conferences in the Midwest.

Last summer, she was a Marketing Communications intern for Accelerated Genetics, a global provider of bovine genetics and animal health products located in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The highlight of that summer was developing a campaign to promote the company's mobile website and bull search tools.
