FUTURE PROOFING THE TRIMBLE WAY
Trimble is a strong believer in "future proofing" growers' investments when they buy GPS systems from the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based firm.

"EZ-Guide Plus was launched in 2004 and quickly became the world's most popular lightbar with its unique design, 6-inch to 8-inch pass-to-pass accuracy and highly attractive price of US$2,795," says Erik Arvesen, general manager of the Trimble Agricultural Division in Westminster, Colo.

He says the award-winning EZ-Steer was a natural extension to the EZ product family that allows growers to upgrade their EZ-Guide Plus to EZ-Steer and experience the benefits of hands-free farming. "We designed EZ-Steer with several distinct goals in mind, with heavy emphasis on upgradeability to protect growers' investments," adds Arvesen. These include:
  • Highly affordable price: US$2,795 for EZ-Guide Plus and US$3,495 for adding assisted steering capabilities with the EZ-Steer system;
  • Easy to upgrade to an assisted steering system from EZ-Guide Plus;
  • Easy to install and use;
  • Fast and easy to move from one vehicle to another; and
  • Works with more than 350 vehicle models, with more being added regularly.

"With these features, and based on marketplace feedback, we believe that our product line is tapping all important grower adoption categories, including the so-called 'majority' segment of adopters, with the EZ-Steer system," says Arvesen. "In the agricultural sector, the majority segment is a huge mass market for a product such as this -- and that includes the potential for thousands of existing Trimble customers to upgrade their systems as the needs of their farming operations change."
