FAMED AGRICULTURALIST PROFILED ON HBO TV TONIGHT Feb. 6, 2010 Source: HBO news release Agriculture's own Temple Grandin is the subject of a special HBO movie which will be broadcast on Saturday, February 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The motion picture stars Claire Danes in the role of a young Temple Grandin. According to Cheryl Miller, Grandin's assistant at Colorado State University, "The program covers flashbacks to Temple's early life but mostly covers high school to her early professional career. Temple was involved with the program to a great degree. They even used her plans to design the curved chute and dip vat used in the movie. In the movie a calf drowns - that was a mechanical bull that HBO built - it is so life-like. "Temple spent an afternoon with Claire Danes in her apartment and also shared early movies of herself, which Claire studied. Temple said that Claire did an amazing job of portraying Temple's mannerisms." According to a February 4 article in USA Today, Danes says "I read some of her books and started exploring who she was and became (enraptured). It was totally daunting, because she's wired and organized in such a fundamentally different way from myself. She's alive and would ultimately see it, and I didn't want to disappoint her." USA Today reports that Danes spend an afternoon with Grandin and videotaped her. She then worked with a choreographer to mimic Grandin's movements and listend to her voice on her headphones to learn to speak like her. According to the USA Today article, "The accent had to be right and the emphatic way of talking and the herky-jerky arm gestures, directory Mick Jackson says. "Temple's emotions are like a movie inside her head. Claire shows her intense vulnerability, and her sheer bravery and doggendness and persistence. She was acting like or imitating Temple. She was Temple." Says Danes about Temple, "She was the only critic I cared about. Once I had her validatino and her appreciation, I felt very, very good." |
