Weekly Comments: Grain and soybean futures came crashing down last week under pressure from favorable rains over parts of the eastern half of the Midwest. The key growing state of Illinois was the beneficiary of most of the moisture. Wheat futures were pressured by the weakness in corn and soybean futures and by anticipation of improving harvest weather in the Plains HRW wheat belt. Live cattle futures plunged under pressure from weak cash cattle and wholesale beef prices, while lean hog futures were pressured by anticipation of seasonal weakness in pork demand.
