Weekly Comments: Corn futures found further support from the slow start to planting season and the tight U.S. supply/demand forecast, but the bull market showed signs of running out of steam late in the week. Soybean futures were supported by continued anticipation of strong exports, rising corn prices and record crude oil prices, but struggled to maintain upward momentum in the face of prospects for large U.S. acreage. Wheat futures fell to new lows for the down move under pressure from growing anticipation of a large new winter wheat crop and technical selling. Cattle futures were boosted by seasonal strength in wholesale beef and cash cattle prices. Anticipation that USDA would report a drop in March feedlot placements also helped boost prices. Lean hog futures found fresh support from strong cash hog and wholesale pork prices, as strong pork demand overshadowed large hog supplies. Cotton futures were pressured by large U.S. cotton stocks, weak export sales and favorable planting progress.
