Comments: Grain and soybean futures had a choppy week last week as conflicting supply/demand fundamentals tugged prices in opposite directions. Corn and soybean futures continued to find support from the severe drought in Argentina, but crop concerns were offset by a further stream of negative economic reports, which raised new questions about the strength of demand. Wheat futures started to find some support from dryness in the U.S. southern Plains. Live cattle futures were pressured by unexpected weakness in Plains cash markets and signs wholesale beef prices have topped again. Lean hog futures continued to be troubled by demand concerns, with USDA reporting a 20% rise in Dec. 31 frozen pork stocks over a year earlier. Cotton futures found support from technical buying and expectations for lower 2009 production. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services.
