Comments: Agricultural futures were generally lower last week under pressure from growing signs world demand has deteriorated more than previously thought. The corn and soybean markets were also pressured by prospects for Argentina's central crop belt to see better rainfall. Wheat futures were pressured continued strong export competition, but losses were again limited by the drought in the U.S. southern Plains. Cattle futures continued to feel pressure from poor beef demand, but Friday afternoon's USDA Semi-Annual Cattle Inventory report was a bullish surprise, as it pegged the U.S. cattle herd below trade expectations. Lean hog futures continued to feel pressure from weak pork prices and negative packer operating margins, but oversold conditions spurred speculative profit taking. Cotton futures failed to sustain early weak gains as evidence of weak demand offset support from prospects for low 2009 plantings.
