Comments: Concerns about the weak world economy weighed further on most commodity markets last week as U.S. stock markets continued to slide, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average posting its lowest weekly close since May of 1997. Soybean futures felt added pressure from improved Argentine crop conditions, technical selling and expectations for U.S. export sales to fade in the face of the South American harvest. Corn and wheat futures followed soybeans lower on Tuesday and then spent the rest of the week chopping in a narrow range finding support from improved corn exports and dryness in the HRW wheat belt. Cattle futures continued to come under pressure from weak beef demand and adequate cattle supplies, while lean hog futures were battered by renewed weakness in cash hog and wholesale pork prices.
