Comments: Grain and soybean futures managed to eke out small gains in choppy trade last week, recovering from sharp Monday losses on speculative short covering spurred partly by stronger crude oil futures. Slow producer selling in cash markets provided fundamental support for corn and soybean prices, while wheat prices found support from expanding dryness in the U.S. HRW wheat belt. Strength was limited by weak U.S. stock markets and slow demand. Live cattle futures turned lower as weak beef prices and a rising U.S. unemployment rate spurred new concerns about beef demand. Lean hog futures followed cash markets higher as hog supplies tightened. Cotton futures remained under pressure from slow demand amid world economic weakness.
