Comments: Grain and soybean prices went their separate ways last week, with soybean futures continuing to rally as hotter Midwest weather spurred jitters about crop production amid tight old-crop supplies and continued strong Chinese demand.
Corn futures, after surging to one-month highs on Monday, sold off sharply on expectations for hot weather to boost lagging crop development.
The wheat market also collapsed from one-month highs on prospects for larger U.S. crop and a stronger U.S. dollar.
The collapse in hog futures accelerated as cash hog and wholesale pork prices continued to fall and traders anticipated further seasonal cash weakness.
Cattle futures remained under pressure from weak beef demand despite tightening feedlot inventories.
Cotton futures rallied as economic optimism spurred speculative short covering.
