Comments: The big story last week in agricultural futures markets was the return of strong fund buying in soybean futures despite a rebound in the value of the dollar. Buying in the soybean market was powered mainly by continued strong demand from China and optimism about the general economy. The soybean price strength helped boost wheat futures to new 3-1/2 month highs despite continued slow export demand for U.S. wheat. Corn futures gave back early week gains, however, as harvest pressure weighed on prices and new-crop corn quality problems created uncertainty about demand. Evidence of a recovery in U.S. pork exports rallied hog futures along with general fund buying, while live cattle futures rose on short covering spurred by oversold market conditions and strong U.S. stock prices. Cotton futures surged after breaking above chart resistance on fresh concerns about crop production in the Delta/Southeast.
