Comments: Grain and soybean futures were mixed in thin trading volume last week as many people took to the sidelines ahead of the Christmas holiday. Corn futures rebounded on support from winter weather, the best weekly export sales of the marketing year and anticipation of index fund buying. Soybean futures came under further pressure from favorable South American crop weather, technical selling and pre-holiday position evening, but found support from a record November crush and strong weekly export sales. Wheat futures edged lower under further pressure from bearish supply/demand fundamentals, including the lowest weekly export sales of the marketing year. Livestock futures headed in opposite directions, with live cattle futures rallying on stronger cash prices and winter weather, while lean hog futures slid under pressure from seasonal cash market weakness.
