Comments: Most agricultural futures markets pushed higher in thin holiday trading volume on support from technical buying, a weaker dollar and year-end position evening. Anticipation of index fund buying in early 2010 also continued to support corn and wheat futures. Soybean futures continued to find fundamental support from strong end-user demand, which kept the market from focusing on good South American crop conditions. Live cattle futures were boosted by continued strong Plains cash trade and expectations for tighter cattle supplies in 2010. Lean hog futures found fundamental support from strong cash prices, but deferred futures were pressured by larger-than-expected SUDA estimates of the fall pig crop and winter farrowings. Cotton futures rebounded on speculative buying driven by optimism about the general economy and rising U.S. export sales.
