Comments: Grain and soybean futures trade turned choppy last week as oversold market conditions spurred speculative profit taking on short positions. Big South American crop prospects kept the soybean market from rallying far, however, and ample U.S. feed grain stocks kept corn and wheat futures under pressure. Renewed weakness in crude oil futures and a further surge in the value of the dollar also put pressure on grain prices late in the week as concerns about the strength of the general world economy grew. Livestock futures were able to shake off economic concerns and move higher on support from stronger cash prices and winter weather. The cotton market continued to plunge on broad-based speculative liquidation spurred by the strengthening dollar and technical weakness.
