Comments: Soybean and corn futures turned higher last week, putting some distance between current prices and critical support at recent lows. The lifting of short positions by funds ahead of the release of two important USDA reports next week provided most of the impetus for last week's bounce. The much anticipated Prospective Plantings Report and a quarterly Grain Stocks Report will be unveiled March 31. The corn market is braced for an increase in planted acreage versus 2009, which will likely add to the already generous stockpile of corn. Record-shattering South American production stands in the way of continued strength in soybean prices. Livestock markets continue to draw strength from robust meat demand. The reopening of the Russian and Chinese markets to U.S. pork has the summer hog contracts above $80. Results of a quarterly hog survey will be released this Friday.
