Comments: Grain and soybean futures edged slightly higher on support from commodity fund short covering amid an absence of fresh bearish news. Some of the short covering was position evening ahead of Friday's USDA supply/demand update, which did not provide any major surprises. USDA did unexpectedly trim the projected U.S. wheat carryout by 51 million bushels, but wheat ending stocks remain burdensome at 950 million bushels. Corn futures rallied on Wednesday on rumors China was about to import U.S. corn, but that strength faded as export traders cast doubt on the story. Live cattle futures charged higher as Plains cash prices surged on tight market-ready cattle supplies. Lean hog futures were also boosted by strong cash hog and wholesale pork prices. Cotton futures were hit with speculative profit taking after failing to push through key chart resistance. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services. |
