Comments: Grain and soybean futures had a mixed week with corn futures rallying in the face of record planting progress as China's first purchase of U.S. corn in four years spurred optimism about export demand. Soybean futures lost ground, though, under pressure from fading export demand for U.S. soybeans and month-end speculative position evening. After a sharp Monday sell-off, spurred by bearish supply/demand fundamentals wheat futures recovered on support from strong corn prices and commodity fund short covering. Livestock futures also had a mixed week with live cattle futures losing ground under pressure from lower Plains cash cattle prices and fund position evening. Lean hog futures rose on support from continued strong cash prices amid tight market ready hog supplies and firm pork demand. Cotton futures were pressured by month-end speculative profit taking.
