Comments: Grain and soybean futures prices held up well last week in the face of substantial pressure from further weakness in crude oil prices and U.S. stock markets amid continued concerns European debt problems would throw the world economy back into recession. A strong dollar and improving Midwest weather were also negative influences on prices, but corn futures continued to find support from talk of Chinese demand. Soybean futures losses were limited by fresh Chinese demand and oversold market conditions, while wheat futures were propped up by technical short covering and dry conditions in western Europe. Livestock futures were hit hard by economic worries and technical weakness, which forced fund long liquidation. Seasonal weakness in pork and beef demand added pressure on livestock prices. Cotton futures rebounded as tight world supplies spurred speculative buying in spite of the strong dollar. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services.
